should i keep this blog?
It costs one Starbucks sausage, cheddar and egg breakfast sandwich (my favourite!) a month to keep my blog running, so its not money I'm concerned about.
Do I want people to see my art and ramblings? Yes, but that's not all. I don't think I'm interesting enough because my analytics don't 'reflect' that. I really should turn them off, even though I do like seeing people from around the world interact with my blog.
I would like to write more, but Im worried this blog will get too personal and turn into a diary. Nobody wants to read that, and I dont want anyone reading that either. In theory, I'm itching to share my thoughts and ideas. In practice, I hate using the word 'I' in a sentence too much. The freedom of anonymity is comfortable and easily spoiled.
So far, I really like being on Bearblog. It motivates me to think deeper. I'm paying for this space, so I better make use of it; Good use, that is.
I get great peace-of-mind knowing that I can post my artwork and writing here, on a site that doesn't allow AI scraping while being simple and pleasurable to customize. Just seeing the things I made sitting clean and neat on my personal website brings me motivation.
The cons here exist in many other internet spaces (indie or not), but I feel them more because this is my personal real estate that I'm paying for. Connecting with others is challenging. Bearblog isn't cohesive (is that the nature of the indie web?). It's hard to get involved.
And yeah, I could do SEO and targeted blog posts to "grow". Will that help me meet other people? I don't think so.
It's a toss up as to whether I'll stay or go, but I'm curious to see what 2026 holds.
