they used ai to announce a woman's death.
I'm "apart" of the communications team at my church, and during a one-on-one Zoom meeting with my boss (pastor's wife).
She accidentally clicked on a tab showing ChatGPT's response to her asking to write an announcement for the death of this woman.
The saddest part is, my church doesn't care about the ethics of generative AI at all. There was a "play" on Easter that was mostly AI slop of real people in the church, with their names and exact likeness used.
Was that done with their consent? I don't fucking think so. It would have been so easy to just throw up some footage from a Easter movie and some stock footage, and accompany it with actors dramatizing their lines.
I don't even have a proper ending to this post. In my heart, I'm hurt, because I know these people personally and I guess I was expecting better from them. Aren't these guys supposed to be stewards of the earth or whatever? Do you really believe and enjoy believing if you're outsourcing worship to a machine?
