wordle's lore is fascinating

A few weeks ago, ended up on the Wikipedia page for Wordle and was struck by how whimsical its origin story is.

Josh Wardle came up with the concept for the game in 2013, and he finished the prototype in 2014 before putting it aside. He got back to it in 2021, taking inspiration from the 'one puzzle per day' format that the NY Times' Spelling Bee and crosswords have. Wordle has made it's mark. The word itself is a verb, and the -le or -dle suffix is now synonymous with the game.

There's other games with similar namesakes, like Globle: a game where you guess the country based off it's silhouette, and Heardle, where you identify a song based off the intro.

Music wordle games are their own rabbit hole, actually. I've played Musicle, which has introduced me to new sounds across genres. There's wordle games for any genre or popular artist you can think of. HipHop wordle? That's a thing. Weezle? Real and fan made, but not working. Lofidle was suprising, the sample used in today's lofi beat was a Queen song! Wordle is wild!
